Final

Final stage overview

The final stage of urological training (ST7) will have two separate components. By the end of the Final stage trainees will be competent to manage a range of general urological conditions including operative competences and emergency urological problems. These will be common to all trainees and will form the basis for the award of the CCT. In addition, trainees will be exposed to one or two specialist areas of urology and will develop competences relevant to that specialist area (see optional modules 1-15). The number and extent of this exposure will depend upon the aptitude of the trainee and the size of the specialist area.

Final stage modular curricula

In discussion with their training Programme Director trainees may, but are not required to, choose to develop one special interest with Urology during their Final Stage of training. The special interests which trainees may choose from are:

  1. Endourology
  2. Oncology
  3. Female urology and reconstruction
  4. Urethral reconstruction (see below)
  5. Andrology
  6. Paediatric urology
  7. Transplantation

The Final Stage modular curriculum is flexible and modular, allowing trainees and their Training Programme Directors to choose which aspects of a special interest a trainee develops. The special interests and relevant modules are shown in the table:

Diagram of training pathway

Special interest Modules Notes
Endourology 1. Urinary tract stone disease

2. Benign disease of the upper urinary tract

Trainees will choose one or both of these modules
Oncology 3. Prostate cancer

4. Bladder cancer

5. Renal cancer

6. Penile cancer

7. Testicular cancer

Trainees may choose all five of these modules, but most will choose one or two
Female urology and reconstruction 8. Female, reconstructive and neurourology Trainees choosing this special interest will do this module, and may also choose module 9
Urethral reconstruction 9. Urethral reconstruction Trainees may choose this special interest alone, or in combination with either Female Urology and Reconstruction or Andrology
Andrology 10. Male factor infertility

11. Benign disorders of male sexual dysfunction

Trainees will choose one or both of these modules, and may also choose module 9
Paediatric urology 12. Paediatric urology Trainees choosing this special interest will do this module
Transplantation 13. Renal transplantation Trainees choosing this special interest will do this module
